In strongly worded comments, MK Avi Me’oz criticizes the American president’s initiative at the UN to promote a framework that would lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state. He argues that applying Israeli sovereignty is the only way to stop what he calls the dangerous prospect of a Palestinian state.
MK Me’oz — the head of the Noam party and the sponsor and driving force behind the Sovereignty Bill, which already passed its preliminary reading — spoke on Channel 7 and sharply condemned the American move. According to him, sovereignty is the only answer that can prevent the creation of a “terror state” in the heart of Israel.
Me’oz expressed deep concern despite the Prime Minister’s repeated assurances that a Palestinian state will not be created. “More than two bloody years after a horrific massacre, the outcome of this war is an open door to a Palestinian state? This is a terrifying threat.”
He added that Israel can no longer remain silent or hide from the danger: “We must stand firm. We are done flattering America. We need to speak our truth.”
Me’oz insisted that it is impossible for the security cabinet to declare that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel, while at the same time allowing developments that, in his view, pave the way toward a Palestinian state in Gaza and in Judea and Samaria.
He warned that this would bring “the greatest threat to Israel — the establishment of a terror state in our land.”
He said he is not surprised by the American position, because “the Americans act according to their own interests.” .Me’oz added: “I want to look the President and Vice President in the eye and say: Do not interfere in the divine process taking place now — the return to Zion and our return to our land after two thousand years.”
He maintained that the only way to block the creation of what he calls a “terror state” is to apply Israeli sovereignty during the current government’s term.
“We are not a protectorate. We must act according to our interests — Israeli and Jewish interests. There will not be two states here. There will be one state — the State of Israel.”
Me’oz expressed frustration that his Sovereignty Bill has not progressed since its preliminary reading, stating that “as long as the Prime Minister does not allow MK Bismut to advance it to its first reading, it will not move forward.”
He added that he and his allies are collecting signatures from members of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, aiming to reach one-third of the committee, which would obligate the chair to convene a discussion.
He called on Prime Minister Netanyahu: “Take this bill, move it forward quickly through the first, second, and third readings — let us apply sovereignty. That is how we prevent a terror state in our land.”
Regarding what sovereignty would practically achieve, Me’oz explained that “the goal of the Arabs is to create one state with a Muslim majority.”
He argued that applying sovereignty would block this agenda:
“Just as no one today proposes handing the Galilee (under our sovereignty) to Hezbollah, or transferring Israel’s Negev or the Gaza perimeter to Egyptian sovereignty, so too by applying sovereignty over Judea and Samaria we cut off the hope of turning that area into the starting point for taking over places like Netanya or Kfar Saba. That would be a terror state that endangers all of us.”
He concluded that sovereignty, backed by a strong Knesset majority, would send a clear message — to the world, to America, and especially to Israel itself: “Enough. The people of Israel have returned to build their own state.”
