The number of residents in Judea and Samaria has passed the half-million mark, a fact that highlights the absurdity of the lack of sovereignty. A half million Israelis under military rule and Ottoman-British-Israeli Law.
The number of Jewish residents in Judea and Samaria has passed half a million. This data point was published by the YESHA Council for the 56th anniversary of the liberation of Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria in the Six Day War.
According to the Council’s data, many of the towns registered growth of more than ten percent in the number of residents in the past year, despite the significant number of barriers and other challenges that make it difficult for the towns to grow and expand further, in keeping with natural growth and the increasing demand.
The Sovereignty Movement expresses satisfaction with the data but also notes that although this data is encouraging, it further highlights the absurdity of the lack of Israeli sovereignty over these areas. “More than half a million Israeli citizens still live under the impossible combination of Ottoman, British and Israeli law and under military rule. It is long past time to end this farce and apply Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria to make the law in these areas commensurate with Israeli law in all other parts of the State of Israel.”
“Israeli sovereignty will allow for a much more significant upsurge in building, it will free land to become available for building more towns, neighborhoods and cities throughout Judea and Samaria for the citizens of the State of Israel in the center of the country. Israeli sovereignty will enable us to cope efficiently and effectively with terror, thus turning Judea and Samaria into an even more attractive goal for young couples and families with many children, long-time citizens and immigrants. Israeli sovereignty will bring with it the appropriate development of infrastructure and roads, which will also add to the momentum of settlement in these areas. Currently, many traffic arteries are suitable to conditions that existed in the area decades ago. Israeli sovereignty will enable the State of Israel to exercise control and enforcement in many fields, from environmental quality to preservation of historical sites, from establishing tourism sites to taking advantage of natural resources and the open spaces for a number of infrastructure projects for all the citizens of Israel.”
The movement also emphasizes that “regarding the vision of having a million residents in Judea and Samaria, and even more, the hope is that very soon there will no longer be the need for this kind of counting because the Green Line, both in maps and in public consciousness, will be erased.”
