Sovereignty Movement to Bismuth: Don’t Miss a Historic Opportunity—Advance the Sovereignty Law

The Sovereignty Movement has issued an unusual appeal to the Chair of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, MK Boaz Bismuth, urging him not to delay the legislation of the Sovereignty Law.

The heads of the Sovereignty Movement, Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, sent an exceptional letter on Monday evening (January 12, 2026) to Bismuth, calling on him not to miss what they described as a historic opportunity and to continue advancing the Sovereignty Law through the Knesset legislative process before the end of the current term.

From the letter:

“With the opening of the winter session nearly three months ago, the Knesset voted in favor of bills submitted by MK Avi Maoz and MK Avigdor Lieberman calling for the application of sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.

It is important to note that the approval of these laws does not take place in a vacuum. In the final week of the last summer session, the Knesset approved by a large majority a historic declaration supporting sovereignty, with the backing of both coalition and opposition alike.

As you know well, elections to the Knesset will be held in 2026—we must not miss this moment. Now is the time to apply sovereignty in practice.
Broad support must be expressed through action.

Ahead of the upcoming elections, we will use our influence to support Members of Knesset and ministers who acted actively in favor of applying sovereignty in practice.

Dear Boaz, you have been entrusted with leading the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee at a historic time. In your hands lies the opportunity to advance the sovereignty laws and be remembered as someone who changed the face of the state forever.
Delaying the law is a moral and strategic mistake.

We call on you to advance the law immediately.”

Within the Sovereignty Movement, sources from the settlement community are quoted as saying they intend to join the call made by Katsover and Matar, viewing the letter as the first step toward advancing the law and realizing the broader vision. The movement also noted that additional actors have made clear their intention to exact a political price in the upcoming elections from lawmakers who choose not to advance the Sovereignty Law during the time remaining in the current Knesset term
