Ahead of the Sovereignty Movement conference new data reveals broad support within the Haredi public for applying sovereignty and promoting Jewish settlement. “The Haredi public sent a clear and unequivocal message to its leadership.”
Against the backdrop of the crisis between the Haredi parties and the coalition, a new poll published ahead of the Sovereignty Movement conference that took place Thursday June 4th in Jerusalem, points to especially broad support among the Haredi public for a series of measures identified with the national camp.
According to the poll, the Haredi public leads in support for applying sovereignty in Judea and Samaria, Gaza, and Lebanon, as well as regarding the encouragement of Arab emigration.
The Sovereignty Movement says the findings reflect a clear trend and a deep identification within the Haredi public with issues of sovereignty and settlement.
According to the data, 96% of the Haredi public supports applying full or gradual sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, 90% support encouraging the emigration of Gaza Strip residents to other countries, 86% support applying sovereignty in the Gaza Strip, and 83% support applying sovereignty in southern Lebanon. The figures stand out especially in comparison to the traditional and religious-Zionist publics, with the Haredi public demonstrating particularly high levels of support.
While support for sovereignty in Judea and Samaria stands at 82% among the traditional public and 85% among the religious-Zionist public, support among the Haredi public reaches 96%. On the issue of encouraging Arab emigration from the Gaza Strip, the Haredi public again leads with 90% support, compared to 83% among the traditional public and 85% among the religious-Zionist public.
High levels of support were also recorded among the Haredi public regarding Jewish settlement beyond Israel’s current borders. According to the poll, 83% of Haredi respondents support encouraging the emigration of Gaza residents while simultaneously establishing Jewish communities in the Strip, and 83% also support applying sovereignty in southern Lebanon.
Similar figures were recorded regarding the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon. Eighty-six percent of the Haredi public supports applying sovereignty in the Gaza Strip, compared to 72% among the traditional public and 78% among the religious-Zionist public. Regarding sovereignty in southern Lebanon, 83% of Haredim support the move, compared to 80% of traditional respondents and 71% of religious-Zionist respondents.
Leaders of the Sovereignty Movement, Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, stated: “The Haredi public sent a clear and unequivocal message to its public leadership. It is not situated at the center of the political map, but rather deeply connected to the Land of Israel and to the desire for sovereignty and Jewish settlement in Gaza and Lebanon. This public is demanding sovereignty now, and we call on its representatives in the Knesset to act in accordance with the will of their voters and advance this move even before the elections.”
